HAA is always looking for ways to develop the site and to help plotholders get the best out of their allotments. Our activites are funded by membership subscriptions, fundraising events (such as the annual West Bank Park Fair) and funding bids.
The committee also:
- organises deliveries of manure to the site (paid for by membership subscriptions)
- organises deliveries of compost and rootmaster soil improver
- represents the site at joint meetings with YACIO and other allotment associations
- organises working parties and Saturday Socials throughout the year
Past projects
Creation of the Carriage Garden and restoration of the carriage.
Between 2014 and 2018 a group of plotholders, in association with HAA, came to together to create this wonderful communal space, known as the Carriage Garden. The focus of the plot is a GNER 1905 railway carriage. In 2014 the site was overgrown and the carriage itself was dilapidated. Through sheer hard work, the time and expertise of our volunteers, and with the aid of external funding, the group transformed this neglected spot into the beautiful space that exists today. In doing so they also restored the carriage and saved an important piece of the site’s history for future allotmenteers and the local community.
Asset of Community Value application
In 2015 HAA put forward a successful nomination to have the site listed as an Asset of Community Value. Achieving this status means that there is official recognition of the importance of the site to the local community and also conveys some protection to the site.
